Wages & Benefit

The IHSS provider wage is currently $10.50/hr.

Once you have been hired by a consumer and have sent the appropriate enrollment forms to the IHSS Social Worker, IHSS will send you a time sheet in the mail. DO NOT start work until the IHSS Social Worker has completed the enrollment forms or you will NOT get paid

Timesheets

You need to complete a time sheet at the end of each pay period, sign it, have the consumer (your employer) sign the timesheets, and mail it to the IHSS address given on the timesheet. Timesheets are due on or after the last day worked in the pay period. DO NOT submit the timesheet early because it will be returned to you. There are two pay periods in the month, and they end on the 15th and the last day of the month.

Some IHSS consumers must pay a “share of cost,” meaning that the consumer pays you each month for a certain number of hours before the IHSS program pays for any further hours. The consumer is usually expected to pay you by the end of the pay period for any share of cost due for hours worked during that pay period. These share of cost hours will be listed on the timesheet. Share of cost hours are paid at the same rate as regular IHSS hours. Social Security and other required taxes are withheld from your check.

An IHSS provider receives a paycheck approximately 10 days after the IHSS payroll department receives the timesheet. If you have not received a paycheck after the 10-day processing period, please contact IHSS payroll at (916) 375-6239.

Benefits

Medical, Vision and Dental Benefits

The first 175 IHSS providers in Yolo County who complete at least 80 hours of authorized IHSS care per month for three consecutive months are eligible to apply to be covered in a full medical plan. Coverage costs the provider $17.45 per month for medical coverage and/or $4.03 for dental coverage. These fees will be deducted from your paycheck once you are enrolled.

Providers must apply for coverage by sending a completed application packet to the Public Authority. For information or to request an application, call the PA at (530) 661-2676. For assistance once enrolled or information regarding medical, vision and dental benefits, contact Dublin Insurance at 1-800-824-3316.

Union Dues/Fair Share

IHSS providers who are authorized to work 15 or more hours per month must either become or remain members of the Union and pay Union dues, or pay an agency fee to the Union.

The dues/fair share fee amount is 2% of your gross pay, with a minimum of $28.00 and a maximum of $36.33 per month. It is automatically deducted from your IHSS paycheck after 45 days of employment. COPE (Committee on Political Education) is a voluntary $5.00 contribution to support pro-worker candidates.

If you have any questions about the Union, dues, fair share, or COPE contributions, please contact

Other Deductions

Deductions are made from your paycheck to cover Social Security and State Disability Insurance benefits.

Social Security (called FICA) is deducted and paid to the US government to provide retirement income and payments to you and your dependents if you are eligible due to being disabled and unable to work. There is no Social Security deduction if you are the parent of the consumer or if you earn less than $1,000 in a year as an IHSS provider.

There is also a deduction for State Disability Insurance, which may provide benefits for up to 12 months if you are disabled and unable to work due to injury on the job. Unemployment Insurance and Worker’s Compensation Insurance are provided by the state, if you become unemployed or are injured on the job and meet requirements. If you are injured on the job, you must immediately contact your consumer’s IHSS Social Worker to obtain the required workers compensation paperwork and let the Social worker and the PA know your consumer may need another provider during your recovery. For information about Unemployment Insurance call 1-800-300-5616.
